With the wild series opener the Fort Worth Cats and Pensacola Pelicans played Friday night, the Cats didn’t need to worry much after falling behind early on Saturday.

The same goes after Pensacola’s Francisco Leandro hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. Fort Worth let a six-run lead slip away the night before, only to win in its final at bat, so a rally wasn’t out of the question.

That rally came in the sixth inning.

The Cats chipped away early, but they batted around in the sixth and took a lead they wouldn’t relinquish for a 10-7 win Saturday in front of 4,858 fans at LaGrave Field.

"There have been a lot of bizarre things happening," Cats manager Chad Tredaway said of the past two wins. "It was probably pretty entertaining to watch, but for us as managers, it’s not as fun."

Pensacola took the early lead, scoring twice in the first inning. Fort Worth (11-7) answered with one run in the first and two more in the fourth after the Pelicans (4-14) took a 6-1 lead.

Then came the sixth. Fort Worth sent 10 batters to the plate, knocking Pensacola starter John Webb out of the game and scoring six runs — five with two outs — when it was all over.

The Cats loaded the bases before Ken Lup beat out a potential double play, leaving runners at the corners and driving in Nelson Teilon. Jonas Fester followed, bringing around both Lup and John Allen and tying the score at 6-6.

That ended Webb’s night, but reliever Carl Scheafer didn’t fare much better. He gave up three straight run-scoring hits before getting the third out.

"We’ve got some good hitters here," said Allen, who finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs driven in. "As long as we keep the confidence up, I think we’re going to be fine."

The rally gave Pedro Flores his ninth win this season, despite giving up seven earned runs and five walks.
