Hitting home runs isn’t as easy as rookie Chris Davis is making it look.

Davis, who was called up to the Rangers on June 26, has eight homers since then, second in the American League to Chicago’s Carlos Quentin. His homer total also ties him for fourth most among American League rookies.

Not bad considering he’s been with the Rangers less than a month.

"That’s pretty cool," Davis said. "Somebody asked me yesterday, 'Do I expect to go out there and hit a home run every time?’ I don’t think anybody expects to do that. I’m not going up there trying to hit the ball over the fence every time. I’ve been fortunate here and there to get some pitches I can do some things with."

Davis also has been a quick learner. After grounding out to pitcher Mark Buehrle with a runner at third in a second-inning at-bat Tuesday, Davis homered off Buehrle in the eighth inning.

Davis has 31 total home runs this season. That puts him one behind minor leaguers Nelson Cruz and Dallas McPherson for the lead in baseball.
