Seattle signed long-snapper Jeff Robinson after rookie Tyler Schmitt was placed on the injured reserve. Robinson is a 15-year veteran signed to replace Tim Lindsey, who was waived. Lindsey was signed only after Schmitt first was sidelined because of his back.
Schmitt was drafted in the sixth round by the Seahawks, but had missed the past week because of a back issue that turned out to be pretty serious.
"It's pretty bad," Holmgren said. "We found out about it and tried to treat it, and it was the doctor's opinion that it wouldn't get any better without a little bit of rest, a long rest."
Schmitt was one of two long-snappers invited to the NFL Scouting Combine where prospects undergo a physical examination.
"There wasn't any indication that there was a problem there," Holmgren said.
Schmitt won't be eligible to play again this season. How about after that?
"I don't know," Holmgren said. "He's a young man, and he's got a back like mine."
